Privacy Policy

Summary

RecMind is local-first. Your maps and seals are stored on your device by default. We do not require an account. Optional features (AI digs, encrypted sync, feedback) send only what you choose to enable.

On-device data

Map titles, nodes, seals, preferences, and a randomly generated device identifier are stored locally (IndexedDB / app storage). This identifier is sent as X-Device-Id so we can apply free AI quotas and Pro entitlements without an account. Losing the device (or clearing storage) may lose local maps unless you use Pro sync with a passphrase you control.

Optional AI

When you run Dig, Expand, Challenge, Spark, or related AI actions, RecMind sends routed context only (project summary, path, siblings, and the focus node) to our API and then to the configured model provider (for example via OpenRouter). Your entire library is not uploaded. If you use Bring Your Own Key (BYOK), your key stays on device and requests go to the provider you choose.

Optional encrypted sync

Pro sync uploads ciphertext only. Your passphrase never leaves the device. We cannot read synced maps. You are responsible for keeping your passphrase.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We receive App Store transaction identifiers and product / expiry data needed to unlock Pro on your device. Payment details stay with Apple.

Feedback

If you submit in-app feedback, we store the message, optional email, device id, locale, and app version so we can respond. Do not include secrets in feedback.

Microphone & speech

Hold-to-talk uses the microphone and (where available) on-device speech recognition. Audio is used to produce text for your map; we do not retain raw audio on our servers.

Retention

Local data remains until you delete maps or uninstall. Server-side quota counters and entitlements are retained while needed to operate the service. Encrypted snapshots are retained while your Pro sync is active; you can stop syncing at any time. Feedback is retained until processed or deleted on request.
